A vile Scots pervert wrote a ‘paedophile manifesto’ claiming his “community” was being discriminated against and their human rights violated.
Darren Adams composed the lengthy document on the same computer he used to view sickening footage of young boys being sexually abused.
The manifesto was found by cops who caught Adams in the act of searching for abuse images when they swooped on his Midlothian home.
Adams, 50, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday and pled guilty to possessing indecent images of children.
Fiscal depute Rosie Cook read out portions of Adams’ writings which were recovered from a hard drive.
Adams, who was previously known as Derek Jones, wrote: “I believe I was born a paedophile. There’s nothing anyone can do about it.
“I’m not proud of this, but I’m not ashamed either. I am more ashamed of the bigoted and close-minded way that society and the law treats people from my community.
“In the same way that people from the LGBT community have seen over the past, society and the law needs to recognise us as another minority group with the very same legal and human rights as anyone else.
“At the end of the day, why should I respect a law which doesn’t respect me?
“I believe that my human rights are being violated in the following ways: my right to personal liberty.”
Earlier Ms Cook told how police executed a search warrant at Adams’ home in Loanhead on October 26 2020.
The court heard Adams informed officers: “I may as well just admit it. It’s been me. It’s on the computer over there.”
Cops seized a number of electronic items from Adams’ bedroom.
Ms Cook said 17,784 images and 232 videos of child abuse were found on the devices. She said 1438 images and 87 videos were at Category A - the worst level.
The depraved haul featured boys aged between four and 14-years-old, she added, and the videos ran for a total of 35 hours and 22 minutes.
Computer discs were also found to contain indecent images with one bearing the creation date of March 26 2006 - nearly 16 years ago.
The prosecutor said cops went to Adams’ home again on August 11 last year with another warrant.
She said officers found the accused “flustered” and trying to shut down a computer.
A web browser was open and Adams was searching for “young boy bent over”, Ms Cook said, while a “large number of files” were downloading.
The court was told Adams had searched for other terms including “secret life of boys” and “medical examination”.
Ms Cook said indecent images of boys aged ten to 16 were found on devices along with the manifesto document.
Adams admitted possessing the indecent material between March 26 2006 and August 11 last year.
Defence agent Mark Harrower acknowledged his client had a previous conviction for the same offence so a jail sentence “looms large” for him.
Mr Harrower said Adams “recognises the abuse of children is wrong” despite his writings.
Sheriff Kenneth Campbell QC deferred sentence until next month for reports.
He added Adams to the sex offenders register and remanded him in custody.
