The Padres-Dodgers rivalry has picked up in recent years as San Diego has established itself as a contender in the National League. That peaked last postseason, when the Padres beat the Dodgers in the NLDS.
This weekend, the two teams faced off for the first time since that playoff series, and San Diego struck first with a 5-2 win. Fernando Tatis Jr. led the way, as the outfielder slugged two home runs off Clayton Kershaw in the game.
After the game ended, San Diego trolled Los Angeles by putting a meme of Kershaw crying on the jumbotron with the phrase “Padres Win” behind it.

Kershaw had his worst start of the season, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings, so it was appropriate that San Diego focused on him to troll. Over his career, Kershaw has a 2.12 ERA in 46 games vs. the Padres, so San Diego took advantage of one time where they got the upper hand.
These two teams are just a game separated in the standings, and with less divisional matchups this year, these games are crucial. After three games in San Diego this weekend, both will meet again next weekend in Los Angeles.
