Paddy McGuinness to stop off in Scottish town ahead of final cycling stretch

PADDY McGuinness is currently in Scotland as the TV presenter is set to complete a hefty cycling trek from Wrexham to Glasgow in aid of Children in Need.

The former host of Top Gear and Take Me Out is on day four of the challenge. He finished in Ecclefechan, Dumfries and Galloway, last night and aims to be at the finish line at BBC’s Pacific Quay building in Glasgow on Friday.

51-year-old McGuinness set off from Wrexham in Wales on Monday, riding a Raleigh Chopper for nearly 300 miles to Glasgow.

He is set to stop off in Strathaven tonight.

Scottish entrepreneur Tom Hunter pledges to match donations

We previously reported on how the charity founded by the Scottish entrepreneur Tom Hunter said it will match the donations made by people to Paddy McGuinness for his BBC Children In Need challenge.

During the coverage of the charity feat, Radio 2 confirmed yesterday that Hunter’s charity the Hunter Foundation would match the donations made by anyone that day.

It is unclear how long the charity will match the donations for, although the total donated so far is £3,348,481.

McGuinness previously spoke about his training sessions for the challenge with six-time Olympic champion Chris Hoy, telling the PA news agency: “Chris Hoy has been absolutely, as you can imagine with some like him, outstanding, first class, brilliant with his advice.

“I really feel as though everyone’s got behind me on this, and just wants me to do it, so they’re giving me as much help as possible. But it’s been an eye-opener certainly.”

He continued: “When I go on a bike ride with Chris, I really know about it, because he pushes me to my absolute limits.”
