Paddy McGuinness 'to front new big budget Channel 4 game show in South Africa'

Paddy McGuinness has reportedly been announced as the face of a brand new big budget game show on Channel 4.

The comedian-turned-presenter looks set to return to the broadcaster which kickstarted his TV career after being unveiled as the host of Tempting Fortune.

Paddy, 49, made his onscreen debut on Channel 4 in 2001 when he played Paddy O'Shea in hit comedy series Phoenix Nights alongside good friend Peter Kay before the pair also starred in the show's spin-off Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere in 2004.

He has built up a large portfolio of presenting gigs on the BBC and ITV, which have included the likes of Take Me Out, Top Gear and Question of Sport.

However, he is reportedly going to front a new show on Channel 4 based in South Africa where 12 strangers will be stranded in the wilderness having been forced to give up their luxuries in a bid to win £300,000.

The contestants will endure an 18-day trek but must resist any temptations such as comfy beds, taxis and eateries in the huge test of character. Anyone who succumbs to the desires will pay high prices for the luxury and will be deducted from the prize pot.

A TV source told The Sun : "Tempting Fortune really is good fortune for Paddy.

"It’s a glossy, big-budget show with human relationships at its heart and a quirky twist - the sort of television Channel 4 does so well and everyone is excited about Paddy fronting it. He remains hugely popular with viewers.

"Will the contestants be able to sustain from temptation for a taxi to the next stop, a massage and hot shower, or a five-star bed for the night? And if the stranded strangers do surrender to temptation will they come clean with their teammates?

"Will they suffer the tough terrain and trek to save the prize pot money or will they choose teammates over temptation?"

Filming for the new series appears to have already taken place in South Africa, with Paddy detailing a trip last summer on Instagram.

He updated his two million followers during his down time from filming, including videos of wildlife.

Paddy wrote: "Had an amazing few days in South Africa. Working on something really exciting but what a treat to see some wildlife out there. Giraffes, Monkeys, Hippos and these couple of chancers living their best life on the beach!"
