Celtic hero and Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand has labelled YouTuber IShowSpeed an 'eejit' after the American mistook him for Red Devils icon David Beckham.
Crerand moved to the Hoops as a 19-year-old, making 120 appearances before moving south of the border to join United where he was a big part of the European Cup-winning squad of 1968 and winning two top-flight titles at Old Trafford.
Being heralded as a legend in Manchester, Crerand regularly appears at the Theatre of Dreams to support the side where he spent most of his superb career - playing his part in club media opportunities and the like. But the Glaswegian was left in complete confusion after talking to famed teen YouTuber sensation IShowSpeed in the midst of United's 4-2 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday evening - after the American star believed he was England legend David Beckham instead.
“You’re a Man United legend?” 17-year-old Speed - who had travelled all the way from Ohio for the tie - asked Crerand, who replied sharply, saying: “I played here before you were born!”
“You played here? Wait, [David] Beckham?” the online prodigy asked Crerand.
And the 83-year-old laughed off the claims, saying: “I’m a little bit older than David Beckham, about 30 years older!”
“What’s your name, bro?” Speed replied, to which Crerand told him.
Through apparent mistranslation, the youngster guessed “Patrick Corney!”, much to Crerand’s bemusement, as he replied: “Crerand, you bloody eejit.”
Another smile dawned upon Crerand’s face as Speed guessed he played in 1720, before he was ushered away - quite the bizarre exchange for Crerand, especially considering Beckham is 36 years his junior.
