Six paddlers were rescued from choppy water off Spoon Bay on the Central Coast Saturday morning after their outrigger canoe took on water and capsized around 8am.
Marine Rescue crews were alerted on the morning of October 26 and rushed about 300 metres offshore to the scene. Rescuers say the outrigger crew were all wearing lifejackets and had found the boat was taking on water as they arrived about 10 minutes after leaving the base.
It capsized soon afterwards.
The six paddlers were taken aboard Marine Rescue vessel Terrigal 30 and were safely returned to shore, where paramedics assessed them.
"We provided them with space blankets, and three of the paddlers were showing signs of hypothermia," Marine Rescue Terrigal deputy unit commander Darren Wright said.
