A homeless man has been jailed for 15 years after slashing two men across the face with a knife in Paddington.

Abdulnabi Alainani, 35, assaulted two men in July 2021 leaving them with permanent injuries.

During the first incident, Alainani demanded money from a man in Edgware Road at around 8pm on July 1 last year.

He then grabbed the victim before slashing him across the face with two knives, leaving him with permanent scars.

Alainani stole several items from him before running away, a court heard.

A few weeks later Alainani attacked his second victim in Praed Street, on July 29 at around 1.30am.

The man was left with life-changing injuries after being slashed across the face.

He attempted to steal items from the man but left empty-handed.

Police were called to the area and carried out an urgent search for the suspect.

Alainani was stopped by officers nearby and found to be carrying two knives and was arrested.

He was interviewed by police but refused to answer questions.

Alainani was charged after police reviewed CCTV footage of both incidents.

Detective Constable Camilla Milinksa said: “These were random and unprovoked attacks on two innocent men who will be left dealing with the consequences for the rest of their lives.

“I have no doubt that Alainani would have gone on to attack other victims and I am certain that the streets of London are safer with him behind bars.

“While we’ve made great progress at tackling violent crime over the past few years, this should act as an important reminder that we’re not complacent and those who are involved in such awful behaviour will be brought to justice.”

Alainani was found guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, one count of robbery, one count of attempted robbery and four counts of having an article with a blade or point.

He was sentenced to 15 years in jail at Southwark Crown Court on March 30.
