The Green Bay Packers were without rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper at Thursday’s practice because of a hamstring injury, per Wes Hodkiewicz of the team’s official site.
Cooper popped up as a limited participation at Wednesday’s practice with a new hamstring injury. His absence Thursday suggests he’ll be hard-pressed to play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field.
While a rookie, Cooper has played 60 percent or more of the Packers’ defensive snaps in five straight games. He’s produced 52 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 10 games.
Cooper, a second-round pick, has the speed to help the Packers contain 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who is second among NFL quarterbacks in scramble attempts this season. If Cooper can’t go, the Packers would likely play Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson as the primary trio of linebackers against the 49ers.
The Packers will release a final injury report on Friday with playing status designations.
