Packers sign James Robinson to practice squad, also swap CBs

The Green Bay Packers added a veteran running back to take Patrick Taylor’s spot on the practice squad and swapped cornerbacks on the practice squad in a roster transaction announced Tuesday.

The Packers signed former Jaguars and Jets running back James Robinson, who will take over as the lone running back on the practice squad. The team also signed rookie cornerback Anthony Johnson and released cornerback Kiondre Thomas from the practice squad.

The transaction revealed the previously reported move of signing Robinson as a practice squad addition. Adding Robinson suggests Taylor’s time in Green Bay is likely over. Taylor played in four games this season, including the Packers’ 17-13 loss to the Raiders, but he was released last week and is still unsigned.

Thomas has been in Green Bay since 2022. He played 11 snaps on special teams as a practice squad elevation against the Lions in Week 4. His spot on the practice squad will go to Johnson, a rookie out of Virginia who spent training camp with the Saints.

The highlight move is signing Robinson, who has almost 3,000 total yards over 39 career NFL games. He’ll provide a veteran option on the practice squad and insurance behind Aaron Jones, who has missed three of the last four games with a hamstring injury.
