The roster move clearing the way for adding rookie kicker Brayden Narveson off waivers is the one most expected: the Green Bay Packers released kicker Greg Joseph on Wednesday.
Joseph made the initial 53-man roster, but his stay didn’t even last a day. The Packers claimed Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans, providing the new kicker in Green Bay after Joseph and Anders Carlson both struggled this summer. Carlson was released during final cuts on Tuesday.
Narveson will be added to the roster — likely on Thursday — once he gets to Green Bay and passes a physical.
Joseph finished training camp and preseason games below 80 percent on recorded kicks. He finished strong in the preseason finale but on-going struggles — especially during a two-week stretch during the middle of camp — likely doomed his chances.
Joseph spent the previous three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. As a result of his release, the No. 2 uniform opened up — and new quarterback Malik Willis is taking it.
