Not only did the Green Bay Packers lose a fifth-straight game on Sunday in Detroit, but Matt LaFleur’s team was dealt a stunning injury blow.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Packers outside linebacker Rashan Gary tore his ACL against the Lions and now needs an MRI to determine any additional damage in his knee.
Gary suffered the non-contact injury during a play in the second half. He limped off the field but was later carted back to the locker room.
It is a loss the Packers simply cannot afford. Through nine games, Gary leads the team in sacks, pressures and quarterback hits.
Although Gary will miss the rest of the 2022 season, he could be back in time for the start of the 2023 regular season.
In Gary’s absence, rookie Kingsley “J.J.” Enagbare will become a full-time starter opposite Preston Smith. The fifth-round pick has emerged as a disruptive player over the last month.
Gary, an ascending star on defense, will enter the final year of his five-year rookie deal in 2023. He was in line for a massive payday this offseason.
