Packers expecting WR Romeo Doubs back on Monday

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he is expecting to have a conversation with Romeo Doubs on Monday, and he’s hopeful the third-year receiver — who was suspended for Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams — will return to work in a full capacity this coming week.

“I’m looking forward to our conversation tomorrow. I fully anticipate him coming back and hopeful he will come back and be ready to work,” LaFleur said on Sunday.

Doubs was suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team. He missed practice on Thursday and Friday for a “personal reason,” which wasn’t specifically described by the team but was reported to be displeasure with his role within the offense.

Currently on the reserve/suspended list, Doubs would need to be activated back to the 53-man roster to re-join the team.

Doubs caught 12 of 20 targets for 169 yards and zero touchdowns through the first four games. He led all Packers receivers in snaps played with 224, or roughly 81 percent of the offense’s snaps.

LaFleur said NFL teams face distractions every season, and he thought the Packers did well in terms of overcoming the distraction created by Doubs this week.

“You have to focus on the task at hand, and I thought our guys did a pretty good job of that,” LaFleur said.

The Packers didn’t have Doubs or Christian Watson but still started fast, using a 53-yard pass from Jordan Love to Jayden Reed to set up a touchdown. But it took a pair of touchdown passes from Love to Tucker Kraft following takeaways in the second half to dig out of a hole, and some inconsistency from the offense in the fourth quarter forced the Packers defense to make a late stand and preserve the 24-19 win.

The Packers play the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
