The Green Bay Packers added cornerback Jaire Alexander to the Week 3 injury report on Friday with a new back injury. He will be listed as questionable on the final injury report before Sunday’s showdown with the New Orleans Saints.
“His back was acting up a little bit. We’ll monitor that. We’ll see where he’s at,” coach Matt LaFleur said Friday.
Buy Packers TicketsAlexander, a two-time All-Pro, was not listed on the injury report prior to Friday. He started each of the team’s first two games against the Bears and Falcons.
LaFleur’s comments suggest Alexander will be a game-time decision come Sunday.
Alexander’s injury status hurts a Packers defense prepping to face Saints receivers Chris Olave, Michael Thomas and Rashid Shaheed on Sunday. If available, Alexander would likely spend most of his time covering Olave, a 2022 first-round pick who has 14 catches for 198 yards through two games.
If Alexander can’t go, the Packers would be forced to use rookie Carrington Valentine as a perimeter cornerback opposite Rasul Douglas vs. the Saints.
Inactives are due 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday, or around 10:30 a.m. CT. Alexander would be made inactive if his back doesn’t allow him to play.
Packers Wire will have more on the final injury report later Friday.
