The Clippers acquired P.J. Tucker alongside James Harden in their recent blockbuster trade with the 76ers, and it’s only taken him a few weeks to realize something problematic with his new team. One basketball isn’t enough for the number of playmakers and scorers Los Angeles has, and it’s safe to say most of the basketball world would agree.
Tucker didn’t just say that openly; he drove it home with a one-liner that may sum up this Clippers team better than any other fan, analyst or insider has managed to do yet.
“There’s not enough basketballs on the planet for this team, really,” Tucker told The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Clearly, the 38-year-old veteran displays the candid and brutal honesty you’d expect from a guy who turned pro 17 years ago.
To the Clippers’ credit, they’ve played far better as of late and seem to be figuring things out. With a group that features Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Harden and Russell Westbrook (who selflessly offered to move to the bench), you’d expect them to require some time to put it all together.
After starting out 0–5 following the trade for Harden, the Clippers have won six of the past nine games, including victories over the Mavericks, Kings and Warriors in the past two weeks.
