Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing over 120 alleged victims of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, has made serious claims of harassment and intimidation following a recent lawsuit that accused Jay-Z of raping a 13-year-old girl at an afterparty with Combs.
Buzbee alleges that he and his family are being targeted in a “coordinated effort” to silence him. He expressed his concerns on Instagram on December 9, stating, “Despite a coordinated and aggressive effort that has included harassing my kids, contacting my clients and former clients to encourage them to sue me… I’m still THAT guy.”
The lawsuit was initially filed in October in the Southern District of New York, naming Combs as a defendant along with other celebrities. Recently, it was refiled to include Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter. The victim claims that both Carter and Combs were involved in her assault at a New York City afterparty when she was just 13-years-old.
Jay-Z has denied any allegations of involvement in the alleged assault and requested the court deny the plaintiff’s motion or reveal her identity to the public “immediately”.
Jay-Z responded strongly to Buzbee’s claims, denying any wrongdoing and accusing the lawyer of attempted extortion. Through his social enterprise Roc Nation, he released a statement calling Buzbee’s actions a “cheap suit”.
“What [Buzbee] had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle…No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion,” he insisted.
“So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”
In light of Jay-Z’s denial of the allegations, Buzbee took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation directly. On December 9 he wrote, “Regarding the Jay Z case and his efforts to silence my clients: Mr. Carter previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm. He filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym.”
He added further context and said, “What he fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him. Instead, she only sought a confidential mediation.”
As this legal battle intensifies, Buzbee remains committed to pursuing justice for his clients. He stated firmly in his Instagram statement, “I won’t be bullied or intimidated. People will see through this effort to discredit me and my clients, and the truth will be revealed. I also won’t allow anyone to scare my clients into silence.”
Jay Z has not since commented on Buzbee’s Instagram post, but has appeared at the Mufasa premiere today with his wife Beyonce and daughter Blue Ivy.
