Owner 'devastated' after Jack Russell chased home by another dog and mauled to death

A dog was mauled to death in her own home after being chased by another dog.

Jack Russell cross Princess was chased into her house in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, by a Dogue De Bordeaux - a much bigger dog.

Despite vets' attempts to save the dog after the attack, the 12-year-old pet died at the Blue Cross Hospital in Grimsby.

Owner Shona O'Sullivan also sustained injuries herself - including bites and scratches to her foot - and required hospital treatment after the late-night attack.

The 53-year-old, of Johnson Street, said she is devastated by what has happened, reports GrimsbyLive.

She said: "I am still in shock and pain. I can't get my head around that she is gone.

"Princess was my world. It is devastating."

She said she had moved from Reading six months ago to enjoy life by the sea in Cleethorpes.

Princess was regularly taken for walks along the seafront and every evening they walked in Sidney Park.

"I came for a day out in Cleethorpes and felt it was like home," she added.

Shona who lived alone with her pet dog said she has lost her voice due to crying constantly.

But she praised the animal hospital where 12-year-old Princess was taken after the attack around midnight on Monday.

"I rushed her round to the vets at 1am. I was covered in blood," said the owner.

"They fed her morphine. But her injuries were not survivable.

"They called me later to say she had died. I had to go to the hospital for a tetanus jab and I am on antibiotics."

She added: "I can't say enough in support of Blue Cross. They were all amazing.

"Right from the moment I rang the intercom at 1am. The service was the best.

"They went above and beyond. They will be getting a donation from me in time.

"But I need to process what has happened and take a few days."

The dog lover said she had moved to Cleethorpes six months ago for peace and quiet, having lived in London and Reading, and said the support from new friends in the resort was keeping her going.

Humberside Police officers are investigating the dog attack.
