Owen Farrell to captain England against Argentina after concussion all-clear

Owen Farrell has reclaimed the England captaincy after completing the return to play concussion protocol and being cleared to face Argentina.

Farrell takes over from Courtney Lawes who continues to show symptoms from the head injury he suffered in September.

It is the first time he will lead England since being injured in the win over Australia at Twickenham 12 months ago.

Alex Coles will make his debut at lock in place of Lawes, with Joe Cokanasiga recalled on the left wing after losing his spot during the summer tour Down Under.

Team boss Eddie Jones said: “It’s been a really good week of preparation and I’ve been very pleased with the squad’s attitude.

“They’ve shown real work ethic and a determination to improve and our leaders, Owen, Ellis and Jack have really lifted the team.

“We’re looking forward to a great game of rugby at a full Twickenham Stadium against a very good Argentina side. It’s been a tough time for rugby lately and we hope that these autumn games show just what a special game it is.”
