Overwhelmed Sam Fender holds back tears during emotional Glastonbury debut

Sam Fender became tearful during his Glastonbury debut on Friday night as he took in the "overwhelming" experience.

The singer, 28, was introducing his next song which he said was about 'growing up' before appearing to get emotional.

He made his Glastonbury debut on the Pyramid stage where he performed in front of a huge crowd.

Sam was due to sing at the festival in 2019 but had to pull out due to illness.

He then had to wait three more years as the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But it seems as though as the performance was worth the wait as he took to the stage at 8.15pm on Friday.

He kicked off his set with Will We Talk and Getting Started before telling his audience: "Oh my f**king word Glastonbury, how we doing?

"Me and the boys have never been here before; we’ve never been here as punters, we’ve never played here and we’re doing that all in one day, which is the most f**king crazy experience."

Fans loved the performance and took to Twitter to share how great the experience was.

One person wrote: "Why am I sobbing watching back Sam Fender’s Glastonbury set? Kid looks so overwhelmed man it’s so sweet"

A second commented: " Sam Fender should be headlining the pyramid stage this is epic,” with another tweeting: “ Bravo @samfendermusic. Loving the black and white takeover of the Pyramid Stage at @glastonbury"

As a fourth said: "@samfendermusic absolutely smashed Glastonbury last night must be mad standing on stage being an artist and hearing thousands upon thousands of people singing a song you maybe wrote in your bedroom back to you"

Sam first became a household name when he won the Rising Star Brit Award in 2019.

His first album Hypersonic Missiles landed him a UK number 1 on the charts in the same year.

The North Shields singer then only got more popular in 2021 with his album Seventeen Going Under which he again got a number 1 spot in the charts.

It looks as though all the hard work is paying off as Sam is estimated to have a net worth of $2.5 million as of 2022.
