Overwatch Rush revealed as Blizzard confirms Overwatch mobile game in development

Blizzard Entertainment has officially unveiled Overwatch Rush, confirming that a new Overwatch mobile game is currently in development.

The studio shared the announcement alongside an early look at gameplay, indicating its latest effort to expand the Overwatch universe beyond PC and console.

According to Blizzard, Overwatch Rush is “a new top-down Hero shooter designed specifically for mobile set in the Overwatch universe.” The publisher noted that the project is not a port of the existing Overwatch title but an entirely new game created from the ground up for mobile devices.

Blizzard said Overwatch Rush is being developed by a dedicated team that is separate from Team 4, the core group behind the main Overwatch franchise. The studio added that the Rush team brings deep mobile development experience, while Team 4 remains fully focused on delivering new seasonal content and updates for Overwatch on PC and console following the successful launch of Season 1.

“Our mission is to continue to expand the Overwatch universe by bringing fresh new adventures to players across all platforms,” Blizzard said.

Overwatch Rush features 4v4 team-based matches and other modes, presented from a top-down perspective optimized for touch controls. Matches are designed to last between three and five minutes, offering shorter, more accessible gameplay sessions for mobile users.

The game includes familiar heroes from the Overwatch universe, such as Tracer, Reinhardt, Soldier: 76, Mercy, Pharah, Kiriko, and Reaper.

Blizzard also confirmed that Overwatch Rush will be free-to-play, with monetization centered around cosmetic items.

While many details remain under wraps, including the game’s release date, Blizzard released a three-and-a-half-minute early development gameplay video. The preview showcases fast-paced combat and compact map design consistent with its shorter match structure.

The developer is preparing to test Overwatch Rush in select countries and regions in the near future. Those interested are encouraged to join the game’s official Discord server for announcements related to regional tests and development progress.

“While there remains a lot of work to do, we’re eager to see how players enjoy what we’ve built so far, and to hear from them on what we should focus on in the coming phases of development,” Blizzard said.
