Less than two months remain until Overwatch 2 releases in early access. Many were expecting the announcement of a third beta relatively soon, but it seems that isn’t happening.
On Thursday, Blizzard executive Jon Spector clarified that the development team isn’t planning for another beta at this time.
“While we will continue testing [Overwatch 2] daily internally, we’re not planning any additional public Beta tests,” Spector said on Twitter. “With all the valuable feedback we received from our alpha and [two] public beta tests, we will be focusing our efforts on launching the best game possible on Oct. 4.”
It’s pretty surprising. The first and second betas had somewhat of a mixed reaction. Loads of fans were left underwhelmed by both tests, with many calling it “Overwatch 1.5,” claiming that not enough was different from the first game. As you might expect, people on Reddit aren’t happy that there isn’t another beta.
Some remain hopeful that Blizzard might sneak in another test period before early access, but that is unlikely. Overwatch 2 launches on Oct. 4, 2022, so there’s really not much time to organize another test.
In a post-Valorant and Apex Legends world, there’s more of an uphill climb for Overwatch 2 than ever to be a success.
