A SCOTTISH primary school has been forced to close temporarily after a fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received reports of a fire at Dales Park School in Peterhead at around 3am on Friday.
Pupils and staff have been asked to stay at home while an investigation is carried out.
It is understood that the fire began in the school's sports hall, with firefighters being able to tackle it by 4am.
An investigation has now been launched into the cause of the fire, with no reports of any injuries.
Crews are expected to return on Friday to carry out further inspections of the school grounds.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “Dales Park School is closed to all pupils and staff today (Friday) following an incident overnight.
"Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and investigations are ongoing.”
