Poorly maintained grass verges on the Ravenscraig estate has now been cut.
The top half of the road through New Craig Road has three long and narrow central reservations that are covered in grass.
Conservative councillor Nathan Wilson sought clarity from the council on why the second and third long central reservations were so poorly maintained, and requested that arrangements be made to have the grass cut if the council was the landowner.
Councillor Wilson said: “When going for a walk in the area, I immediately noticed that two of the long central reservations on the road through Ravenscraig were not being maintained and the grass had grown to a considerable height.
“I contacted environment officials to seek clarification on the status of the land and requested that if the central reservations were the council’s responsibility for arrangements to be made to have the grass cut.
“It is welcome that the appropriate maintenance work has now been carried out and I offer my thanks to the staff involved for the prompt action to address the problem with the overgrown grass on the New Craig Road.
“It is important that maintenance work does now continue to take place when necessary and for all efforts to be made at avoiding repeat situations where the grass grows incredibly long and significantly detracts from the local area in consequence.”
In a letter to the councillor, council officials confirmed that the central reservation forms part of the grass asset contained within its works programme.
John Ashcroft, the council's roads and land maintenance manager, added: “This area requires traffic management in order for the work to be done safely and is generally done out with peak times.
“This means that this area is cut less often than the verges on either side which can be done without traffic management.”
