'Overflowing bins' and 'significant amounts of rubbish' spoil popular Dublin sea spot during heatwave

'Overflowing bins' and 'significant amounts of rubbish' have spoiled a popular Dublin beach during Dublin's heatwave.

Sandycove Beach andthe 40 Foot in Dun Laoghaire were left significantly little after people flocked to the areas during the heatwave. Dozens of towels were found in the area, along with small items like bottles, cigarette butts, and hair bobbins.

Flossie and Harriet Donnelly from Flossie and the Beach Cleaners were out this morning. cleaning up left behind litter and trying to stop shoes, clothes, and toys from going into landfill. Wetsuits were also left behind and have been given to Seal Rescue Ireland which are used for abandoned seal pups.

15-year-old Flossie told Morning Ireland: “This morning we found abandoned clothes, broken things, towels, men's pants, men's swimming togs. No women's might I just add.

“It’s definitely much worse with the weather we’re getting. People are just coming down to the beach and leaving their stuff behind. It’s people's pollution here.

“Things that can’t be recycled sadly have to go to the landfill. We can recycle clothes and towels - they go to animal shelters or the lost and found box.”

Meanwhile, Harriet added: “We find men's swimming togs, towels, toys, water bottles, plastic vapes are one of our new everyday finds. Today we found a can of petrol. The towels are unbelievable at the moment.

“Some people just forget things. Some things, if they’re ripped, like the ripped swimmers or towels - they just leave them.

“There’s loads of bins. It was a very hot day two days ago. It was so publicised, everybody took the day off and went to the beaches. It was over polluted by people. We could build a whole shop of socks from the socks left behind by people.”
