A developer has withdrawn a planning application to build an apartment complex in the middle of a village. Some had described the plans as "over-intensive".
Bellco, the developer, had planned to transform a derelict site in Keyworth into 37 apartments with retail and office space. It said the neighbourhood plan had identified "a shortage of facilities for small independent retailers" and therefore also proposed to open up the site to business owners.
The site, off Bunny Lane, was formerly inhabited by the Royal British Legion but has since stood derelict. While some residents had described it as an "eyesore" others said the plans were out of character for the village.

Councillor Dave Clarke, who sits on the parish council, told Nottinghamshire Live: "I do not think there is much in the way of mixed feelings as long as it is in-keeping and this one was not at all.
"We thought as a parish council it was over-intensive. You have got a church on the corner and the problem you have got is with the t-junction the development would make it quite awkward to see what is going on.
"We are not against any development, we are against closing that t-junction in."
And speaking previously Roger Hall, 82, described the proposals as "ludicrous". He added: "You need something that can integrate into the village, and something that can be a part of the village."
The building would have spanned three storeys and included six retail units, five office spaces and 27 parking spaces. Plans were submitted to Rushcliffe Borough Council last December but were withdrawn at the beginning of April this year.
Rushcliffe Borough Council said: "I can inform you that the planning application was withdrawn on April 6, 2022, and no further action will be taken."
Bellco was contacted for comment on the reasons behind the withdrawal, but had not responded by time of publication.
