Following the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, more than 700,000 customers in Georgia are currently without power, as reported by the spokesperson for Georgia's largest utility on Friday morning.
Efforts to restore power have been underway, with approximately 100,000 customers having their power restored overnight, according to the utility's spokesperson.
While outages persist in cities such as Valdosta, Columbus, and Savannah, crews are now able to safely commence restoration work as the storm has passed through most of these areas.
The spokesperson emphasized the importance of safety during the restoration process, highlighting that the well-being of both utility workers and customers is paramount. He advised the public to exercise caution around any debris or standing water in their yards, as these could pose electrical hazards if there are downed power lines nearby.
Georgia Power is working diligently to address the outages and ensure that power is restored to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.
