Mercifully few major incidents at Strade Bianche but many big names still sidelined – Pro cycling injury list 2026

WILLUNGA, AUSTRALIA - JANUARY 24: (L-R) Antoine L'Hote of France and Decathlon CMA CGM Team and Vegard Stake Laengen of Norway and UAE Team Emirates crash during the 26th Santos Tour Down Under 2026, Stage 4 a 130.8km stage from Brighton to Willunga / #UCIWT / on January 24, 2026 in Willunga, Australia. Professional cycling is a brutal sport that can rule out anyone, from the world's best rider to a Continental-level domestique, for months in just a split second.

Crashes are part and parcel of racing and training, which means that every team in the peloton has a list of injured riders to look after at some point during the season. 2026 is no different, with plenty of riders suffering various fractures and injuries in the opening months of the season.

It's only mid-March, and dozens of riders are already out after a number of crashes hit the pre-season stage races as well as Opening Weekend. The men's and women's Strade Bianche were fortunately free from the major pile-ups we saw in Belgium, so whilst hosts of riders DNFed the brutal gravel race, there aren't any dramatic injuries to report.

Rider safety has been an increasingly prominent topic in recent years, but the number of crashes so far in 2026 points to a wider issue still being present.

"It’s just so dangerous now, and it’s getting worse and worse, with the speed of the racing and the aggressive way they’re racing," Sean Kelly wrote in a recent Cyclingnews column. "Everybody seems to be fighting for every centimetre of road, and nobody is backing off at all. So you get all these crashes and all these broken bones. The issue has to be looked at immediately."

There have also been concerns about race safety and quality, with Jonas Vingegaard complaining that the opening stage of Paris-Nice featured roads "not worthy of a WorldTour race".

We've compiled all currently injured riders in one place with a log of their injuries, as well as the race and date they were sustained, which we'll update periodically. Some riders listed here may have recovered from their injuries, but are yet to return to racing.

Here's the rundown of all the ongoing injuries keeping riders out of racing at the WorldTour, Women's WorldTour and ProTeam levels.
