Over 40 eight-foot-tall giraffe sculptures arrive in Edinburgh for city-wide trail

Over 40 eight-foot-tall giraffe sculptures have arrived in the capital ahead of a special trail to raise vital funds for wildlife conservation work around the world.

The sculptures were welcomed by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) at Ocean Terminal on Thursday (March 17) ahead of Edinburgh Zoo’s upcoming Giraffe About Town trail.

In partnership with Wild in Art, the event will see the herd of individually designed giraffes go on display across Edinburgh in summer 2022 to help the capital recover after lockdown.

Most of the models will be designed and decorated by local artists and community groups in a painting space in conjunction with Living Memory Association within Ocean Terminal.

The giraffes will be individually designed then placed around the city (RZSS)

Later they will be auctioned to raise vital funds to support RZSS wildlife conservation work in Scotland and around the world.

The incredible art trail is set to hit the street from Friday, July 1 until August 29. You can find out more about it here.
