During a recent news conference with city officials, Chief of Patrol John Chell of the New York Police Department revealed that approximately 300 individuals were arrested by NYPD officers at a Columbia University building. The majority of these arrests were connected to the break-in at Hamilton Hall.
Out of the 282 arrests made in relation to the incident, 173 individuals were from City College, while 109 were from Columbia University. This indicates a significant presence of City College students involved in the unauthorized entry.
Chief Chell mentioned that authorities are still in the process of determining the precise number of individuals who were arrested and did not have affiliations with either of the two universities. This suggests that there may have been individuals from outside the academic institutions who were also involved in the incident.
The arrests made by the NYPD highlight the seriousness with which law enforcement is addressing the break-in at Hamilton Hall. The collaboration between the police department and the universities involved will likely continue as investigations progress and more details emerge regarding the individuals responsible for the unauthorized entry.
