More than 200,000 individuals have sought refuge in Syria from Lebanon following the commencement of Israel's bombing operations within the country, as confirmed by the United Nations' High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on Saturday.
The displaced population comprises both Lebanese nationals and Syrian residents residing in Lebanon, according to Grandi's statement.
Relief initiatives are currently underway at border crossings, with the United Nations, the Syrian Red Crescent, and various other organizations actively involved in providing assistance.
For context, Lebanese authorities have disclosed that over 1.2 million Lebanese citizens have been displaced since the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah last month. The situation has left numerous families homeless, with many forced to seek shelter on the streets.
Recent reports from Relief International's Lebanon country director, Giacomo Lapo Baldini, have highlighted a critical issue concerning access to clean water. Hundreds of thousands of individuals are facing water scarcity due to the destruction of facilities by Israeli attacks.
