Over 140,000 Mirror readers have called for a general election as Rishi Sunak becomes the new Prime Minister.
It comes as calls for a general election grow louder as the country is once again governed by an unelected leader.
In a brief address lasting just 86 seconds and only 184 words, the new Tory leader said Liz Truss led with "grace and dignity" during her brief stint in office.
He warned the country faced a "profound economic challenge" and needed "stability and unity" to build a "better, more prosperous future for our children and our grandchildren."
This comes as this afternoon Sunak ruled out a general election and told Tory MPs to "unite or die" in his first speech as Prime Minister.
The former Chancellor had secured the backing of at least 200 Conservative MPs ahead of the 2pm nomination deadline to be Tory leader. His rival Ms Mordaunt bowed out moments before the deadline.
As the UK is now to move onto its fifth prime minister in just over six years, the Labour leader also demanded a general election.
Keir Starmer said: “What a mess, this is not just a soap opera at the top of the Tory party, it’s doing huge damage to our economy and to the reputation of our country.
“The public is paying with higher prices, with higher mortgages, so we can’t have a revolving door of chaos.”
Voters are rightly furious and have demanded an immediate general election so the public has a say in who takes charge.
Millions of people are suffering from the effects of the mini-Budget disaster while the cost of living crisis continues to squeeze households.
Thousands have already made their voices heard with our petition, which has just hit a staggering 100,000 signatures as of Sunday morning.
Jennifer wrote: "It’s obvious at this point that the conservatives find it impossible to act in the national interest. This whole mess is just them trying to safeguard their jobs. Enough is enough."
Christopher added: "How can the Tories say they are doing the best for the people when they completely trash the economy apart from the gas/electricity money they have not done anything for the poor even causing the mortgage rate to rise and because of fall in the pound goods from abroad are dearer so inflation is up above 10% mostly caused by their incompetence."
And Gwenbro summed it up and wrote: "We do need Starmer to sort the economy. We need other Labour, Liberal, Green and Independent MPs."
