A total of 117,006 drivers in Dublin had penalty points on their drivers licence at the end of November.
Data from the Road Safety Authority shows 547,190 drivers around the country had penalty points heading into December, an increase of 4,971 compared to the end of 2021. After Dublin, the highest number was recorded in Cork with 59,988 drivers there having penalty points.
This was followed by Galway with 29,169 and Kildare with 26,717. Foreign licence holders made up 45,361 of the drivers with penalty points around the country.

Most drivers included in the list had three penalty points (391,411), while 35,833 people had two points and 60,972 had six points. Overall, 17,503 drivers had seven or more penalty points. Of these, 873 had 12 points.
Most drivers' penalty points are caused by speeding. Other common reasons include no insurance, non-display of L-plates, driving while using a mobile phone and failing to wear a seatbelt.
