Over 11,000 civil servant jobs have been relocated out of London, the Government has said.
Most of the new roles have been moved to the north-west and Yorkshire as part of the Government’s Places for Growth programme.
According to the Government, 2,100 civil servant jobs previously based in London are now operating from Greater Manchester, Liverpool and Sefton.
Work has started on a new hub in First Street, Manchester which is expected to open in 2025 and will accommodate 2,500 roles.
Over 1,800 roles have also been moved to Leeds and Sheffield. The jobs which have moved include tackling exploitation, while Cabinet Office posts working on counter-fraud have moved to Manchester.
Cabinet Office minister Jeremy Quin said: "The programme to move government roles out of London is a key part of the plan to deliver on the prime minister’s top priorities, particularly when it comes to growing the economy across the whole UK.
"By putting local voices at the heart of policy-making, we’re also moving power out of Westminster and into the hands of communities."
The Plan for Growth programme aims to shift 22,000 civil service jobs outside of the capital by 2030.
