Over 1.5 Million Still Without Power After Hurricane Helene

More than 1.5 million homes and businesses are still without power across several states in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic regions following the impact of Helene last week. The latest data from PowerOutage.us shows that Georgia and the Carolinas are the most affected, with a total of 1.3 million outages.

As of 8 a.m. ET, the breakdown of outages is as follows: South Carolina with over 612,000 outages, Georgia with more than 468,000 outages, North Carolina with 292,000 outages, Virginia with 75,000 outages, Florida with 67,000 outages, and West Virginia with 17,000 outages.

Despite the widespread power outages, temperatures in the affected regions are expected to remain near or slightly above normal for the week ahead. High temperatures will range in the 80s from Florida to southern North Carolina on Tuesday, while areas like western North Carolina and Virginia will experience temperatures in the 70s. Overnight lows are forecasted to drop into the 60s for most of the affected areas, with some regions like western North Carolina possibly seeing upper 50s and Florida's Big Bend region experiencing low 70s.

Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing as communities work to restore power and address the aftermath of the storm. The impacted regions are urged to stay informed about the latest updates and safety precautions as they navigate through the recovery process.
