The Grand Canal was left in an "absolutely disgraceful" state by revellers enjoying yesterday's sunshine.
The phenomenon of litter being left on canals during a spell of good summer weather has been happening for years. A video of the remains shows the extent of the rubbish left behind.
The piles of discarded cans, bottles, pizza boxes and cups left many locals annoyed. Independent Councillor Mannix Flynn was also left frustrated by the state of the canal.

He said: "This is outrageous. We are years at this. What is the point in doing any good work on this if the citizens and the visitors are going to behave like this?
"But even more importantly, why is Dublin City Council not on the ball here? Surely they must realise that it is summer time and people will be using the canals.
"There is no excuse for the citizenry and the visitors to leave the place in that state. It is not the first time we have had this situation.
He added: "Nobody wants to demonise the youth or those out there drinking but this is absolutely disgraceful. They have turned that whole area where there are residents, people passing, businesses and wildlife into basically a landfill.
"They simply came there and dumped. It was left there all night long with lots of complaints coming in. People were asking, 'what in the name of God happened here?'"
Cllr Flynn called for DCC to bring in 24/7 cleaning crews. He said: "Dublin City Council need to up their game in terms of waste management delivery service.
"They need to apply a lot more men and women to clean the streets like they have in Barcelona - where it is 24/7. It is a capital city with a huge amount of people moving through it."
Dublin Live has contacted DCC for comment.
