Outrage at cup of tea so milky it has been labelled a 'criminal offence'

The cup of tea is a true British staple and whether you have sugar or not, or how much milk, endless hours can be spent debating the perfect way to enjoy a humble cuppa. But it seems Brits have put aside their differences and joined arm-in-arm outraged at a milky cup of tea that has emerged online.

Traditionally, a cup of tea is made with the bag, hot water, and then a splash of milk. But one brew has been labelled a 'criminal offence' it has that much milk.

What some have branded as a monstrosity, was shared online by No Context Brits. It sat on a wooden table waiting for the unlucky - or lucky? - person who will drink it.

And dozens of outraged Brits slammed the beverage. @Quorntail on Twitter said: "I for one love a nice cup of paintbrush rinse water."

While @topicalcomedian simply said: "Take 'em to the tower!" Maybe they will have their passport revoked?

@Llamedos77 said: "That's not tea. That is hot water and milk solution that has been threatened with a tea bag dunk! This is horrific!"

A popular suggestion was wondering whether the drink was in fact chicken soup instead. @Scotbot said: "Looks more like a chicken cuppa soup."

While @CarinaBergman_ said: "That's mushroom soup." @TheExplodingBoi said: "Surely that's a chicken cup-a-soup?"

How do you make the perfect cup of tea?

According to Yorkshire Tea, if you're making your tea straight into a mug, you should run the tap a little first before filling the kettle. This will aerate the water so it keeps its oxygen levels once it boils.

The tea bag should then be popped into the mug with the boiling water. And then stirred briefly.

Then you wait. A proper cup of tea should be left to brew for between four and five minutes, this helps to unlock the flavour.

The bag should then be given a quick squeeze against the size of the mug. Just once mind to release the last bit of flavour.

And then, the last bit is entirely customisable. Whether you want to add semi-skimmed, skimmed milk or even a dairy-free alternative - you could even try some honey, lemon, or leave it black.

How to brew the perfect tea in a teapot?

Well, according to Yorkshire Tea, the steps are largely the same, but instead of pouring the water into a mug, you'll put some in your tea pot and swirl it around a bit first to keep it warm.

Then, you should add two teabags into the teapot, or one into a mini teapot. Pour the hot water, and stir for a bit.

Then, after your four to five minutes have passed, your tea will once again be ready.
