"STRUCTURAL reform" is needed to combat climate change and bring down energy bills, campaigners have said as one of the North Sea's largest oil and gas firms revealed profits of more than £12 billion in the first half of 2026.

Shell has revealed a better-than-expected 70% surge in first-half earnings despite “severe disruption” in oil and gas markets amid the Iran war.
