Outlander star Sam Heughan set for Edinburgh appearance to promote new book

Outlander star Sam Heughan has announced a rare treat for homegrown fans.

The Balmacllelan-born actor revealed earlier this year he's set to release his first memoir, Waypoints, much to the delight of followers.

But they'll be even happier to learn the news that the 42-year-old is planning to publicise his book with some special in person appearances, one of which is taking place in Edinburgh.

Sam, who plays Jamie Fraser in the hit Starz series, will also be taking part in an Evening with Sam Heughan in London in the same week.

'Waypoints' will be published by Radar and will follow Sam as he makes his way along the West Highland Way to reflect on the personal waypoints that define him.

On the journey, Sam hikes 100miles from his home to the base of the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis, and “attempts” to climb it.

Fitness fanatic Sam is no stranger to a challenge and is looking forward to sharing this new adventure with his followers.

Announcing the news to his 3.2 million followers in March, Sam wrote: "Ready to come on a journey with me?! So excited that my new biography “Waypoints” is available for preorder NOW! Join me as I hike 100miles from my home to the base of the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis and “attempt” to climb it.

"Along the journey I reflect on stories from my life, with personal insight plus my hopes, dreams and plans for the future. I can’t wait to share this personal journey with you.x Preorder available now: UK/US/Canada/AU/NZ www.samheughanbooks.com."

Following the success of his Clanlands books with Graham McTavish, fans couldn't contain their excitement.

One wrote: "Your story is one of hard work and giving back and I’m sure it will encourage a lot of people!"

Another added: "Love this! Looking forward to an interesting read about you!"

And soon they'll have a chance to get up close and personal with the main man himself.

An Evening with Sam Heughan takes part at McEwan Hall in Edinburgh on October 23 and the Barbican in London on October 24.

Sharing the exciting news with fans on Instagram, Sam wrote: “Celebrating my new memoir 'Waypoints' in Edinburgh and London.

“Join me for an evening discussing the book and my journey to the highlands. Should be a wonderful evening, excited to see you all in person!”

The events will be streamed globally at the same time.

Last week the Outlander star was back in the capital as he paid a visit to one of the city's top restaurants.

The Scots actor popped into The Kitchin in Leith to film a scene for Men in Kilts with co-star Graham McTavish.

The pair, who have just returned from filming in New Zealand, were photographed with top chef and owner Tom Kitchin.

The celebrity chef shared the moment on social media with the trio appearing to be having a lively discussion as they tucked into Scottish cuisine.
