Outlander star John Bell 'immensely proud' of show despite 'bittersweet' feelings on ending

Outlander star John Bell says he is 'immensely proud' of the hit show as the cast and crew prepare to film the final season.

In a heartbreaking announcement, it was revealed that Outlander would end after it's eighth season as the network would focus on the series prequel Blood of my Blood which tells the love story of Jamie's parents. The Paisley-born actor, 25, best known for his role as Young Ian in Outlander, has opened up on his thoughts about the series ending.

The Scots actor said that while he is seriously 'proud' of the work everyone had done on the series, it will be 'bittersweet' for it to end after ten years on air. Speaking of the series ending, he said: “Bittersweet, obviously. It’s a privilege to be on this show for so long."

He continued to the Express: "It’s something I don’t think a lot of shows get. So, to have carried this torch for this character for this amount of time.

“I’m immensely proud but then there is the sadness of something coming to an end and feeling like it’s part of your life. It’s all memories now. But then it happened and it was beautiful, so I’m proud mostly.”

Speaking of the Outlander book to TV adaptation, John added: “I guess it’s interesting for you guys as book readers to see what’s going to make it in, what doesn’t, where will it take it.”

The Scots actor couldn't confirm or deny whether work had started on the eighth and final season yet, but Outlander's leading lady Caitriona Balfe previously issued an update.

Speaking about the potential Droughtlander between season seven and eight, Caitriona said: “Well, we had a date. And now with the writers strike, who knows? So we have to just wait and see."

She continued to Radio Times: "That's obviously a big thing that's going on at the moment stateside and that may change things. But you know, it's too early to start speculating about that.”
