Outlander fans were beyond thrilled today as Starz revealed the date that season seven will air - but many were left scratching their heads.
Superfans - of which there are many - have been suffering from 'droughtlander' but that will soon be over on Friday, June 16... sort of.
The official Starz page announced the news on Instagram by sharing some cast snaps, as well as the news this series will be split into 'two halves', with the second airing in 2024.
Along side the photos of the cast on set, they wrote: "Ready for summer on Fraser’s Ridge? #Outlander Season 7 will officially premiere JUNE 16!
"The sixteen episode season will be split into two parts with the first half premiering June 16 and the second half airing in 2024."
But many flocked to the comments to ask why the season is being split in two.
One wrote: "Why 2024!! That’s far too long a wait."
Another added: "That’s bs ..run all the episodes straight through."
While one penned: "omfg in two parts whyyyyy."
And another said: "Splitting a season six months apart = two seasons. Let’s just call it what it is."
While another added: "Why splitting the show cmon we're already suffering enough."
And one commented: "Oh why?? Basically the same as season 6 only 8 seasons and more droughtlander."
Fans are in for a real treat this season as due to season six being shortened to only eight episodes, season 7 is making up for that and will have 16 episodes, much like that of the first season and three or four more than we get in normal seasons of the show.
With the main cast set to return, it's likely that we will see the likes of Alexander Vlahos (Allan Christie), Mark Lewis Jones (Tom Christie) and Chris Larkin (Richard Brown) as we get to the end of the Christie family saga.
While Paul Gorman (Josiah and Keziah Beardsley) will surely be back in their storyline with Lizzie and of course, the enigmatic Brennan Martin as Wendigo Donner – if it is indeed him – certainly still has a part to play.
Actor Dave Berry has also hinted he may return to fix things between Lord John Gray and Sam Heughan's Jamie and fans have long speculated that Graham McTavish could reprise the role of Buck MacKenzie.
Speaking to TV Guide about next season, Maril Davis said: "Season 7 is just a huge season. Huge. I say that every season, but this season truly is the biggest.
"I mean, we've talked about the revolution coming, like winter is coming. We're finally going to see it.
"It's just a wild ride, and I'm just looking forward to putting our characters in more turmoil and craziness.
"No one's going to be getting a rest, let's put it that way."
We know the Revolutionary War will really be ramped up and as mentioned already we have the Christie plotline to wrap up with Jamie and Young Ian en route to try and rescue Claire.
