Diana Gabaldon hit back with a tongue-in-cheek response to a fan on her social media who claimed the author had spoiled her most recent book.
It came after an Outlander fan asked if the snakes in her local area were inspiration for Jamie and Roger's snake bite story in the ninth Outlander book 'Go Tell the Bees that I am Gone'.
The author responded: "No, but the red racer was responsible for what happened to Jamie at the battle of Kings Mountain..." But one fan of the book series was not impressed, claiming the 71-year-old had "ruined" the ninth book of the series.
A fan wrote to her on Twitter: "Wow, looks like spoiler...even if the bees aren't there. Thanks for your great books. Looking forward to what comes next."
But Diana responded to this with a hilariously sarcastic response when she pointed out novel had been out for over a year already.
She said: "The book's been out for over a year; a little late for spoilers, I think..."
Die-hards of the series, which has been adapted by Starz TV into a hit show, took to Twitter to rave about how much they love the book in the responses.
"I love Bees, I’m almost finished my 3rd read through! Can’t wait for book 10. And the What Frank knew!," said one person.
Another Twitter user added: "I just finished reading it for the second time."
Meanwhile, fans of the show adaptation are eagerly awaiting the end of 'droughtlander', with season seven set to hit the small screens this summer.
Outlander's seventh series is bound to be an unmissable event for fans given its doubled length of the sixth run. Season six only aired eight episodes instead of the original 12, but the seventh has been confirmed to consist of 16 episodes.
