Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has congratulated Sam Heughan on the release of his memoir Waypoints: My Scottish Journey.
The Scots actor, who is best known for his role as Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in the historical fantasy series, released the book earlier this week. It details his 'deeply personal' reflections along his journey across the West Highland Way in Scotland.
The Dumfries-born star, who studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, released his memoir on Tuesday October 25.
The award-winning Outlander author penned a sweet congratulations to Sam, 42, on Twitter as he celebrated his book hitting the shelves.
In response to Sam's tweet: "It's here!!!!!!," Diana posted a sweet message to the actor: "Congratulations, Sheugs! Beautiful book, can't wait to read it!"
Fans quickly took to the replies to share their thoughts on his book. One fan gushed: "It is wonderful! You will love it! At times I jumped up, laughed, cried, and even got angry at one point! The audio version is my favorite, though the hardcover has great pics."
"Yes I agree Ms. Gabaldon and May I add that both you and mr Heughan brilliant writers, both of you inspire me so much so much. When you wrote your books I thought and others said you reading this you will never get there. I proved them wrong. With Mr. Heughan amazing," penned another. A third replied: "The writing rates right up there with yours! Absolutely a great read! I hate putting it down!"
However, one fan queried the writers new nickname for the star, writing: "I'm curious, does this sound like S-huegs, S-hoogs, or Shuegs like sugar, shuggs," and Diana responded: ""Shoox," like the past tense of "shook", but with an "x". I used it as just a contraction of Sam's original "SHeughan" Twitter handle, but later discovered that "sheugh" is actually a Gaelic word."
Speaking to EW about Waypoints, Sam said: "This is not Jamie Fraser, the king of men. This is an actor who thinks he's playing the role of a hillwalker," he joked.
“But I struggled. I almost gave up. I found myself lost on the side of Loch Lomond in the dark. And it wasn't until I really sort of slowed down and enjoyed the journey that I began to appreciate the trail itself.”
Outlander series 1-6 are available to stream on LIONSGATE+ in the UK
