Outersloth is an indie game fund that aims to support small studios amid turmoil in the video games industry. It was created by Among Us developer Innersloth.
Innersloth communications director Victoria Tran talked about the indie game fund, which was first revealed in June earlier this year. The fund has already provided support to a variety of studios, including Outerloop Games, Strange Scaffold, and Visai Games.
Innersloth's Indie Game Fund, Outersloth
However, the first signs of the Outersloth indie game fund were only seen when the new venture signed its very first title. This was Mars First Logistics from the Australian studio Shape Shop.
In an announcement, Trans said that the Outersloth logo was basically the Innersloth one inverted, where the sloth inside became the one outside and had the person be at the core of it, according to GamesIndustry.
There were even some people who messaged them, warning them that it looked like someone was trying to steal Innersloth's name. The communications director had to reassure them that everything was fine.
She noted that they wanted to wait until everything was smoothed out before they revealed the project. Trans said that it would have been a nice big announcement that they could save for a showcase, which is what happened at Summer Game Fest 2024.
Innersloth's latest initiative comes after the meteoric success of its main game, Among Us, which is still popular today.
The company said during Summer Game Fest 2024 that the indie game fund was its way of giving back to the community that supported its own breakout hit, said VentureBeat.
On top of showcasing the Outersloth indie game fund, Innersloth also took the time during the last event to tease its upcoming animated series based on Among Us.
The announcement release for the initiative also noted that it was not a surprise what the video game industry is going through.
Supporting Small Studios
This was a reference to the series of layoffs and studio closures that have plagued the industry for the past two years. It noted that Innersloth was lucky to have found success with Among Us and was able to stay truly independent since then.
One of the games that the indie game fund is supporting is Thirsty Suitors from Outerloop Games which features two sisters, Samara and Amani. They will explore a floral and fantastic world inside a "Spirit-mech."
A press release explained that in the sisters' efforts to reconnect with old relationships, they will be forced to reconcile with past friends and family members. Players will also be able to discover and devour delicious new recipes, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
