Out on bail, murder convict kills witness in UP; gets life term

BAREILLY: The court of additional district and sessions judge in Bareilly on Friday awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing a witness while he was out on bail for refusing to compromise in a 2004 murder case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50 on the accused identified as Harishankar Lal.

The incident was reported from Thiriya Kalyanpur village under the limits of Shahi police station on March 18, 2010. Horilal, who’s son Shishupal was killed by Harishankar over property dispute in 2004, was on his way back home with his brother Niranjan Lal, an employee of district co-operative society, when the accused Harishankar had opened indiscriminate firing. While Horilal managed to escape, Niranjan sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot.

Police had later arrested Harishankar and charged him under IPC section 302 (murder). A chargesheet was filed against him in the court in 2011.
