Ouseburn Family Pride event postponed due to Queen's Funeral

Ouseburn Family Pride due to take place on Sunday has been postponed due to the national period of mourning following the Queen's death last Thursday.

The inaugural event last year attracted around 4,000 people to the Ouseburn Valley in Newcastle with venues such as Seven Stories, Ouseburn Farm and the valley's pubs coming together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Organisers Northern Pride had been working with local venues and charities to create a range of activities including a family drag show, readings at Seven Stories by local LGBTQ+ writers and voguing dance workshops for teens.

However, organisers felt that it was not right for the day of fun to go ahead, with the Queen's Funeral going ahead on September 19, and are now looking at finding a suitable date in the not too distant future. The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place at Westminster Abbey on Monday September 19 at 11am, marks the end of a period of national mourning for the UK.

Ouseburn Family Pride is far from the only event to be postponed or cancelled following the late monarch's death, with the weekend's Premier League and EFL fixtures not going ahead as a mark of respect. Many businesses up and down the country have also announced that they will either be running reduced services or closed completely on the day of the funeral itself.

A statement from the organisers of Ouseburn Pride, Northern Pride, read: "Working with our sponsor Opencast, partners, venues, and performers, we’ve concluded that Ouseburn Family Pride (18 th September) will be postponed during this time of mourning and due to the Queen's funeral scheduled for Monday 19th September.

Ouseburn Family Pride attracted around 4,000 visitors in 2021, its inaugural year (PR)

"We are in talks with all key partners and venues on finding a suitable new date and will communicate this as soon as we can. We’d like to thank all those involved in delivering our second Ouseburn Family Pride for their continued collaboration and commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ families and young people."
