It's good to see aged care providers acknowledging the work of their staff.
The Royal Freemasons' Benevolent Institution runs retirement villages and residences across NSW and the ACT.
This week, it announced its inaugural Showcase Awards for staff and volunteers who go above and beyond.
Finalists were announced on Wednesday, which was Aged Care Employee Day. And ACT staff are in the mix.
Several RFBI Holt Masonic Village staff members were named as finalists and they will be front and centre of the awards' announcement at the National Gallery in Canberra on September 10.
A registered nurse at Holt, Chandani Gauchan has been nominated for Mentor of the Year. She is known for her compassion and empathy and "excels in mentoring new staff".
"I feel really appreciated," Chandani said. "It's great to know that my work has been acknowledged. It is such a great team to work with here."
The catering supervisor Yoshika Jinna is a finalist in the Cook/Chef of the Year award. She has been part of the team at Holt for more than 17 years. Her culinary creations are much appreciated by the residents.
"I love cooking, challenging myself with new recipes, and working with the residents here. RFBI looks after you; they know you personally and care about you," Yoshika said.
RFBI Holt Masonic Village's Lifestyle Team is a finalist in the Team of the Year category. The team members dedicate themselves to enriching the lives of the residents, such as organising special celebrations.
And Dianne Moir is representing Holt after being nominated as the Volunteer of the Year. Since 2013, she has brought joy and companionship to the residents, particularly through her weekly Rummikum games
RFBI Holt Masonic Village general manager Faye Saunders was proud of the nominees.
"We have committed staff, many long-serving employees and our departments take pride in their work. Above all, we care," she said.
