A Ryanair flight traveling from Berlin to Milan was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Germany on June 4, 2025, after hitting severe turbulence that injured nine passengers. The incident involving flight FR8 points to a bigger issue in the aviation industry: turbulence is becoming more frequent and intense, and experts say climate change is to blame.
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which was operating as flight FR8, encountered severe turbulence while flying over Germany. The sudden and violent shaking led the pilot to divert and make an emergency landing at Memmingen Airport, about 115 kilometers west of Munich. Among the injured passengers were a woman and her two-year-old child; the child suffered a head injury, while the mother had bruises. A 59-year-old woman also suffered back pain serious enough to require hospital treatment.
