The founder of parkrun has said, as the one million events milestone was reached this weekend, that the “most obvious challenge” that the charity faces is the “gender, sex debate”.

The first parkrun event took place in Bushy Park in London in 2004, then called Bushy Park Time Trial, and parkrun has since spread around the world.
