Our Liverpool: city awaits spring 'back to work' budget

Hello and welcome to this morning's Our Liverpool.

The spring budget is due to be announced at lunchtime today, with chancellor Jeremy Hunt expected to announce plans he hopes will energise the UK's struggling economy. Billed the "back to work" budget, Hunt is expected to focus on encouraging over 50s, the long-term sick and those on benefits to get back to work.

He will stand in the House of Commons and make his speech at 12.30. But, ahead of that, you can read about 11 things Hunt is expected to announce, and what they could mean for you, ahead of time.

Wetherspoons pull plug on £3m revamp and put pub up for sale

Pub giant Wetherspoons has decided to sell the Master Mariner in New Brighton after it has been closed for a significant £3m revamp and expansion. The works were originally set to be finished by August, but the building next door presented hurdles for the development, leading to it eventually being demolished.

Wetherspoons has now confirmed the revamp will be left in the lurch. They said it was a "commercial decision" and confirmed staff will not be made redundant as a result of the decision, but instead will work in other local Wetherspoons. Elliot Ryder has the story.

The lost clothing store that was always 'chocca'

Nostalgia Reporter Jess Molyneux has taken a trip down memory lane and visited C&A, a mainstay on Church Street for years in the last century. Shoppers will remember the store as the go-to for bargains, with sites also in Birkenhead and Chester.

The area looks so different now with Decathlon and L'Occitane in its place, but plenty of people still remember fondly their time at the store.

Our investigation into the 'back door' ticket scandal at Liverpool City Council may yet yield more revelations. In their response to freedom of information requests made by the ECHO, the council made clear the response was not wholly complete as further additional information was yet to be reviewed.

This could mean more revelations could be on their way.
