Oscars to feature musical performances from Sinners and Kpop Demon Hunters at Sunday’s ceremony

The upcoming 98th Academy Awards are set to feature a star-studded line-up of performers, including Josh Groban, ballet dancer Misty Copeland, and the vocal talents behind HUNTR/X, though not all will share the stage simultaneously. Producers have unveiled further details regarding the highly anticipated musical segments for this Sunday’s ceremony.

Audiences can look forward to live renditions of the Oscar-nominated songs "Golden," from the animated feature Kpop Demon Hunters, and "I Lied to You," featured in Sinners. The performance of "Golden" will showcase Rei Ami, EJAE, and Audrey Nuna, alongside Korean instrumentalists and dancers, in a broader celebration of the film’s folklore.

For "I Lied to You," Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq will lead a segment exploring the song’s cinematic role. They will be joined by Misty Copeland, blues legends Eric Gales, Buddy Guy, and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, actors Jayme Lawson and Li Jun Li, as well as musicians Brittany Howard, Bobby Rush, Shaboozey, and Alice Smith. Josh Groban’s specific contribution to the show remains under wraps, with more information expected closer to the event.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, 15 March, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The live broadcast on ABC is scheduled to commence at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific.

Conan O’Brien is returning to host the prestigious event for a second consecutive year, following his successful tenure at the 97th Oscars. His return was announced almost a year ago, with O’Brien quipping in a statement last March, "The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech."

For those wishing to stream the event, the Oscars will be available live on Hulu, as well as via Hulu Live TV, YouTubeTV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV. Viewers can also access the broadcast through ABC.com and the ABC app with provider authentication.

This year’s nominations see a competitive field across all categories. For Best Actress, the nominees are Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, Emma Stone for Bugonia, and Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue.

The Best Actor category features Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent.

In the supporting categories, Jacob Elordi for Frankenstein, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro for One Battle After Another, Stellan Skarsgård for Sentimental Value, and Delroy Lindo for Sinners are nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Best Supporting Actress nominees include Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Sentimental Value, Amy Madigan for Weapons, Wunmi Mosaku for Sinners, and Teyana Taylor for One Battle After Another.

One Battle After Another has long been considered the front-runner for Best Picture and Best Director. However, in recent weeks, Sinners, which leads this year’s nominations with a record-breaking 16 nods, appears to be closing the gap.

Associated Press Film Writers Jake Coyle and Lindsey Bahr predict One Battle After Another will still secure Best Picture and Best Director. They also anticipate Buckley for Best Actress, Jordan for Best Actor, and Taylor for Best Supporting Actress, though they are divided on Best Supporting Actor, with Coyle favouring Penn and Bahr backing Lindo.

A host of stars are slated to present awards, including last year’s Best Actor and Actress winners Adrien Brody and Mikey Madison, and Supporting Actor and Actress winners Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldaña.

They will be joined by Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Javier Bardem, Maya Rudolph, Chase Infiniti, Demi Moore, Kumail Nanjiani, Anne Hathaway, Will Arnett, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Paul Mescal. Many of the nominated films are currently available on various streaming platforms, while some can still be seen in cinemas.
