As Hurricane Milton approaches, Orlando resident Pedro Caceres is taking proactive measures to protect his home. Caceres has implemented an innovative strategy to secure his roof, drawing inspiration from his time living in Puerto Rico over 20 years ago.
His home is now equipped with heavy-duty cargo straps that run from the front yard, over the top of the house, and into the backyard. These straps are securely anchored into buried cement, ensuring maximum stability and protection against the impending storm.
Caceres estimates that the entire setup, including specialized equipment and the cement foundation, cost around $3,000. The cement holding down the straps was poured 8 feet into the ground, providing a solid anchor for the home.
This is not the first time Caceres has taken such precautions. He previously secured his home during Hurricane Charley in 2004, and the measures proved successful in safeguarding his property.
Expressing hope and faith, Caceres' daughter, Raisa Càceres, shared their family's sentiments. She stated, 'We're praying to God that this second hurricane holds our home, like it did the first time.'
By investing in these protective measures, Caceres is demonstrating a proactive approach to safeguarding his home and loved ones during severe weather events. His dedication to preparedness serves as a reminder of the importance of taking precautions in the face of natural disasters.
